The Tourism Business Forum in Zaporizhia will host an international discussion "On the assignment of the Chernobyl zone to the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site" on November 16-17
It is known that Ukraine will jointly develop tourism in the Chernobyl exclusion zone with Belarus. A Ukrainian-Belarusian working group on the development of Chernobyl tourism has already been established, involving representatives of the authorities, the travel and hospitality industry, public organizations and scientists, some of whom will come to Zaporizhia for the Tourism Business Forum.
"This is a place of world historical significance, there are a number of unique structures and architectural complexes on its territory, and its nature is also unique. Such recognition will be another logical and necessary step in overcoming the negative consequences of the Chernobyl disaster and rehabilitating the accident site. The status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site is an additional guarantee of the preservation and integrity of unique natural and cultural complexes, increases the prestige of the territories, promotes the popularization of the objects included in the List, and attracts investments," said Serhiy Myrny, head of the Chernobyl Tourism Association of Ukraine, director of science and development of "CHORNOBYL TOUR".
Myrny also emphasized that at the moment there is an obvious trend towards an increase in tourist traffic to the Chernobyl zone, and also pointed to its great prospects as a tourist destination. He expressed confidence that the assignment of the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site will contribute to the revival and development of the territories of the Chernobyl zone and adjacent areas.
