Before the beginning of the 20th century, there was no electricity in Oleksandrivsk. The city was illuminated by kerosene lamps.
However, in 1910, the construction of the first electric station in a modern style with elements of pseudo-Gothic was completed. The station was thermal, and energy was generated by burning peat and coal in special boilers. The uninterrupted supply of electricity for the city began in July 1911. The opening of the power station was a significant event.
By 1917, the station's capacity was 400 kilowatts, which provided for the needs of the entire city. In late 1917, the station and its surroundings became the site of battles between UNR fighters and Soviet Russian forces during the battle for Oleksandrivsk. As a result, the city came under bolshevik control.
Today, the power station building has been preserved almost in its original form.
